Dow launches VOLTRICELL™ battery cell materials platform to advance next-generation battery innovation

  • VOLTRICELL™ materials are designed to help address performance needs in high-energy-density battery applications.
  • Alongside existing technologies, the introduction of VOLTRICELL™ means Dow can support customers across multiple stages of the battery value chain.
  • Dow’s newest battery fire protection materials DOWSIL™ EF-6559 and DOWSIL™ FC-2024 will be also on display at The Battery Show North America 2026

Midland, Mich., – Oct. 12, 2026 – Today Dow (NYSE: DOW) announced the addition of VOLTRICELL™ to its existing portfolio of battery solutions at The Battery Show North America. VOLTRICELL™ is a brand-new suite of materials designed to optimize battery manufacturing processes and improve the performance of today’s battery and emerging sodium-ion, silicon-anode and solid-state battery technologies. It is Dow’s first material platform designed specifically for supporting optimal electrochemistry inside the cell.

As battery technologies continue to evolve, manufacturers face growing pressure to improve energy density, extend cycle life, increase charging speed and scale production across multiple chemistries and manufacturing approaches. VOLTRICELL™ brings together Dow's growing portfolio of battery cell materials under a unified platform designed to support innovation across electrodes, separators, coatings and battery cell packaging applications. The portfolio includes binders, dispersants, rheology modifiers, surfactants and specialty additives that can be selected and combined to help support performance, manufacturability and scalability.

"In the battery industry, there are a multitude of chemistries and cell manufacturing strategies in play today and under development for the future," said Joel McDonald, Global Technical Director for Dow MobilityScience™. "Battery manufacturers need materials partners that can evolve with their technology roadmaps. Through VOLTRICELL™, we can help customers innovate with confidence, leveraging Dow’s broad toolbox to support today's cell chemistries and the next generation of energy storage."

Designing Materials that Support the Whole Battery

The launch of VOLTRICELL™ reflects Dow's continued commitment to the industry and to customers across the battery value chain. By combining deep materials science expertise with application development capabilities and global technical support through its global MobilityScience Studios, Dow helps battery manufacturers accelerate innovation from cell design to system-level integration.

At The Battery Show North America 2026, Dow will also showcase its latest materials to support battery fire protection including:

  • VORAFORCE™ TP1415 Polyol: a polyurethane resin system for manufacturing lightweight fiber-reinforced composites, designed to support impact resistance, corrosion resistance and flame-retardant performance in polyurethane pultrusion applications
  • DOWSIL™ EF-6559 Silicone Foam: a two-part, expanding foam for narrow, complex shapes within battery assemblies that forms a protective ceramic layer when exposed to high heat and is designed to support thermal management and electrical insulation in high-volume series production
  • DOWSIL™ FC-2024 Coating: one-part RTV coating applied to battery housings, enclosures and lids to support battery fire protection by forming a hard protective ceramic layer during a thermal event and is intended for a cylindrical, prismatic or pouch-based battery system

Visitors can meet with Dow experts at Booth #3000 in Exhibit Halls A-E to explore how advanced materials are helping drive the next generation of battery innovation.
