Dow expands bio-circular product offering with ISCC PLUS certification for Freeport, Texas MDI facility

Dow’s Ecolibrium™ bio-circular technology enables products with up to 60% bio-based material and reduced carbon footprint using the mass balance approach

Freeport, TX– October 27, 2025 – Dow (NYSE: DOW) is proud to announce that its isocyanates manufacturing facility in Freeport, Texas has earned International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification. This certification reinforces Dow’s ongoing commitment to advancing more sustainable production and product offerings to customers in the North America region with verified supply chain transparency.

Dow’s new certification makes all isocyanate products produced at the Freeport facility available with bio-based* material from Dow’s Ecolibrium™ portfolio through mass balance. This is made possible by using alternative feedstocks based on bio-circular materials at the beginning of our integrated manufacturing process. In turn, customers will see zero impact to product quality while achieving material with increased sustainability benefits and reduced carbon footprint.

“Achieving ISCC PLUS certification at our Freeport MDI Complex marks a significant milestone for Dow. It validates our commitment to credible sustainability practices and strengthens supply chain traceability, advancing our journey to deliver more sustainable products to our customers,” said Chris Breeck, TXO Plant & Production Leader. With this certification, our customers can confidently select materials that support their own sustainability goals and meet the evolving requirements of construction, consumer, and automotive industries.

Expanding isocyanate products with more sustainable attributes
Applying innovative technologies, more sustainable products will be available in North America and certified by ISCC PLUS through mass balance featuring Ecolibrium™ bio-circular material:

  • PAPI™ 580N REN Polymeric MDI for polyiso insulation boards and insulated metal panels
  • PAPI™ 23 REN for furniture and mattress foams
  • SPECFLEX™ NES 1540 REN for automotive noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) solutions
  • ISONATE™ 143L REN Modified MDI for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomer formulations

The recent certification of our Freeport MDI Complex provides the opportunity to expand our offering over time as other alternative feedstocks become available in the North America region. For example, in Europe, we replace fossil-based feedstocks with waste from the automotive industry to offer products with circular material attributed by mass balance.

This offering complements our polyol site certification achieved in 2024. ISCC is a world-leading international certification standard for fully traceable and environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable supply chains. This verification qualifies the tracking of alternative feedstocks through the mass balance approach.
