Dow Delivers Food Relief to Over 7000 People in Cairo and Giza Governorates in Egypt

May 18, 2020 - Dow has partnered with Egyptian Food Bank to provide food relief to disadvantaged communities, extensively affected by Covid-19 pandemic in Cairo and Giza cities under their “Supporting Day Labor” campaign. The efforts will enable these communities to meet their minimum food requirements during the partial lock-down period and ensure that they do not have to resort other means that may expose them to risk of being infected with Covid-19.

About 1,900 families, with an average of four members each, received food boxes containing the essential food supplies including: rice, pasta, sugar, peas, dry dates, oil, fava beans, salt, feta cheese and canned beef.

“Egypt was among the first countries in Africa to report Covid-19 cases and it has been affected significantly by the pandemic. Communities who live hand to mouth can no longer engage in economic activities due to government movement restrictions and this is where we have directed our relief efforts,” said Sami Mainich, Regional Leader, Dow North Africa and Levant and Chair of Africa Steering Committee.

Dow and Egyptian Food Bank are working closely with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity to identify the negatively affected families and ensure that the most deserving communities are prioritized.

“We want to thank Dow for putting smiles on the faces of many families who have found themselves unable to get regular meals at this time. The support has come at the most critical time of Ramadan and as the situation continues to evolve, we are certain that the supplies will go a long way in helping these vulnerable communities,” said Dr. Moez El Shohdi, President, Food Banking Regional Network.
