Dow's diversified industry-leading portfolio of specialty chemical, advanced materials, agrosciences and plastics businesses delivers a broad range of technology-based products and solutions to customers in approximately 160 countries and in high growth sectors such as electronics, water, energy, coatings and agriculture. In 2010, Dow had annual sales of $53.7 billion and employed approximately 50,000 people worldwide. The Company’s more than 5,000 products are manufactured at 188 sites in 35 countries across the globe.
Dow acquired Rohm and Haas in 2009. Rohm and Haas Company — and now Dow — has operated in Deer Park since its construction in 1947. Today, Dow Deer Park occupies 900 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, approximately 22 miles east of downtown Houston. It employs nearly 700 people within eight production areas that operate as separate facilities or “plants within a plant.”
The myriad of specialty chemicals manufactured at the site include methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, amines, and various acrylates. Though seldom seen by consumers, these chemicals enable other industries to produce better-performing, higher-quality end products and finished goods for consumers worldwide. Some of the markets using specialty chemicals from Dow’s Deer Park operations include paints, detergents, floor care products, adhesives and sealants, automotive coatings, acrylic plastics, personal care products, and water purification chemicals.

Employees apply their talents and passions to community challenges via Dow Corps, the company’s overarching program for all types of employee engagement and volunteerism. Dow Corps brings together traditional and skills-based employee engagement programs to focus on priorities that are aligned to Dow’s Global Citizenship efforts and the Engaging Employees for Impact goal.
