About this role
Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Scientist in the Consumer Solution's Consumer Electronics, Computing and Communications materials market located in Auburn, MI. This customer-facing role applies in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in this discipline to support customer needs by leading the development of new applications and by providing technical knowledge on the use, handling and management of Dow products.

This is a Technical Service & Development (TS&D) application engineering role to serve Consumer Electronics, Computing and Communications customers of Dow Consumer Solutions’ silicone-based engineered materials and technologies. These customers include, but are not limited to, Chip producers, Hyperscalers, device manufacturers and electronics contract manufacturers and this role is expected to drive Electronics Materials business growth globally. The responsibilities include providing technical support to customers, qualifying Dow products at customers and value chain partners, maintaining good customer relationships together with account managers, identifying growth opportunities in the market, and driving new application development projects.
The role requires high initiative, problem solving, good project management skills and the ability to work successfully in varying environments and responsibilities. Excellent communication skills and the ability to cooperate closely with customers and across internal functions are essential. A passion for technology and a high affinity for understanding customer needs and application requirements are important. Furthermore, the team is seeking a hands-on candidate who is comfortable working in a lab setting as part of this role.
This role is to be based in Auburn, Michigan. Some travel within the United States and overseas travel to other Dow locations may be required to promote business, enhance one’s competency and share learnings. Many of the customers in this technology space are located on the West Coast, Southwest US or in Asia, among other regions.
Responsibilities
Working closely with Account Managers, Research Scientists, Application Technology Leaders, Product Technology Leaders and Technical Service and Development Engineers and Technologists, he/she will have responsibility for new customer and new application development. The key responsibilities of this job include:
Customer Intimacy & Market Insight - Understand customer application processes, translate needs into material performance, define Critical to Quality items (CTQs), and apply broad market and competitive knowledge to solve technical issues and drive spec-in with strategic accounts
Technical Support & Leadership - Provide TS&D to strategic accounts, respond to technical questions, and lead global cross-functional teams to enhance customer engagement from spec-in through commercialization.
Strategic Awareness & Value Creation - Monitor competition and market trends, integrate insights into group activities, and articulate differentiated technical solutions and synergies that maximize value for Dow and customers.
Project & Intellectual Capital Management - Apply exemplary project methodologies, manage technical project pipelines, contribute to intellectual capital strategy and technology maps, and lead IP development.
Communication & Thought Leadership - Deliver clear presentations and reports, influence internal and external audiences, author and present at industry conferences, and coach others on articulating the value of Dow technologies.
