Dow currently has an opening for an Instrumentation Engineer at its Sabine River Operations location, located in Orange, Texas.
About you and this role:
The Instrumentation Engineer acts as a technical resource for capital and improvement projects. These projects include: (1) implementing Dow’s most effective technology, (2) incremental process technology improvements and (3) solutions new to Dow’s businesses. The Instrumentation Engineer is fully qualified and proficient in the application of design engineering fundamentals and independently applies this knowledge. The individual is also expected to provide technical expertise as a part of related global networks. The individual must be able to work with minimal supervision and be self-directed.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead specialized Instrumentation Design Engineering activities for capital and expense projects
- Provide cost estimates and preliminary engineering design work for the development and preparation of projects
- Design, specify and procure instrument/electrical components and systems for projects
- Provide detailed instrument/electrical engineering design and contractor supervision to ensure that capital and expense projects are completed accurately and efficiently
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance departments on instrumentation, electrical and control systems
- Direct and monitor activities of engineering and construction contractors for progress and quality to ensure compliance to Dow standards
- Participate in the input and inter-discipline design document development such as P&IDs, PFDs, ISO’s etc
- Assist in loop verification for instrumentation included in the construction packages
- Perform technical review of Management of Change for instrument and electrical systems
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Good organizational skills and ability to simultaneously lead several projects
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills coupled with a strong technical background
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively sell ideas to all job levels
Required qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Instrumentation Engineering
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience (i.e. engineering, manufacturing, fabrication or related)
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Work at heights, climbs stairs and ladders
- Wear all required personal protective equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
- Stand or walk for extended periods of time
- This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground

- Troubleshooting: Ability to work through a systematic approach that is data driven to identify potential root causes and resolve problems efficiently. Troubleshooting equipment and quality issues
- Cross Functional Collaboration: Work with Peers, functional support groups (tech center, quality, maintenance, etc.) to accomplish facility goals and resolve day to day challenges associated with their processes of responsibility
- Project Leadership Skills: Ability to facilitate cross functionally a coordinated effort to accomplish a project. To identify steps to milestones needed to accomplish the goals of a project. Examples: Identifying the actions needed to meet an LPP standard in the facility, and leading a small team to implement the actions.
- Technical Skills: Ability to apply basic instrument design practices and apply knowledge to assist in troubleshooting quality issues. Understanding of basic process technology: pumps, instrumentation, distillation, etc.
- Prioritization: The ability to assess all of the potential areas of focus, and able to prioritize what the organization is in most of need of to meet key deadlines. Focus on urgent when needed, and also ability to be proactive for important/non-urgent activities
- Growth Mindset: Have the confidence to learn, grow, and develop in the role. The mindset to not fear making mistakes, and tackle challenges as a growth opportunity
- Communication: Strategic communication management is the control of communication in and out of an organization to promote the clear exchange of information and ideas
- Accountability: Accountability is the acknowledgment and assumption of responsibility for actions, products, decisions, and policies including the administration, governance, and implementation within the scope of the role
- Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is the evaluation of facts to form a judgment by using the rational, data-based analysis of factual evidence
