About you and this role
Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Indirect Tax Manager. The preferred locations are Houston, TX or Lake Jackson, TX, but candidates located in other Dow locations on the U.S. Gulf Coast (“USGC”) are encouraged to apply.
As a Tax Manager for our U.S. operations, you will be part of our Indirect Tax Operations Team with primary oversight of Sales and Use Tax matters for the USGC region. In this role, you will interact across businesses and functions such as the Dow Services Business, Energy Business, Feedstocks Business, Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability, Infrastructure Operations, and the broader Finance Organization. The successful candidate will ensure indirect tax planning, compliance, and audit activities are carried out meticulously. You will develop strategic insights and recommendations for complex problems related to Sales and Use Tax in an attempt to optimize our local operations tax base, all while ensuring the integrity of tax reporting.
Responsibilities
- Providing comprehensive tax services for an assigned portfolio of entities and assets (i.e., planning, compliance, and controversy).
- Developing insights in tax planning that will maximize shareholder value.
- Reviewing and monitoring events/transactions which could impact quality of data, budgets and when necessary, takes immediate action to influence our cost position.
- Working with business and functional leaders to analyze and recommend valuable after-tax planning opportunities.
- Participating in local projects with Operations, Commercial, Legal, and Finance.
- Track and implement new tax legislation impacting a range of customer, operational, project or service activities.
- Providing process and daily activity management with respect to indirect tax laws and regulations (tax returns, payments, exemptions, system design and maintenance).
- Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities or tax risk.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant working experience.
- Prior or current experience managing Sales and Use Tax in the petrochemicals or a related industry is required.
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 10% annually, domestically and/or internationally, and meet all applicable requirements related to business travel (e.g., as to immigration and visa rules, public-health mandates, airline rules, etc.) into and out of (and physical presence in) various countries worldwide.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree in a quantitative field such as IT, Information Systems, finance, and/or accounting is desired.
- 10+ years of relevant indirect tax experience is preferred.

- Technical skills in the following: SAP platforms - ERP Central Component (ECC), R/3, R/2; ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination (SABRIX); Microsoft Office and SharePoint; Business Objects / Business Warehouse; Diamond Systems Reporting; RIA, CCH; and/or Avalara CertCapture.
