John Sampson


Senior Vice President, Operations,
Manufacturing and Engineering

John Sampson is the senior vice president for Operations, Manufacturing & Engineering (M&E) for Dow, a global materials science company with sales of approximately $40 billion in 2025. In this role, Sampson is responsible for the global operations strategy and organization, comprising more than 22,000 employees, and serves as the deputy chairman of the Board of Directors of Sadara Chemical Company. He is also a member of the Company’s Leadership Team, which sets business, geographic and functional strategies, priorities, and targets.

Under Sampson’s leadership, Dow’s M&E organization has been recognized as one of the Best Workplaces in Manufacturing by Great Place to Work® for five consecutive years, ranking first in 2024 and 2025.

Sampson is also a member of the North Star Team chartered to drive Dow’s Customer Experience and Employee Experience to advance the evolution of Dow’s operating model.

Prior to rejoining Dow, Sampson served as a corporate officer at Olin Corporation, providing executive oversight for M&E, Manufacturing Services, Safety/Health & Environmental and the Technology Center of Olin’s Chemical businesses. Earlier in his career, Sampson spent more than three decades at Dow, beginning in 1983 in Polymers Research & Development in Louisiana and progressing through various leadership roles across the manufacturing organization.

Sampson has held various leadership roles outside of Dow, including service on the Board of Governors for Argonne National Laboratory and the steering and advisory committees of the National Safety Council’s Campbell Institute. He also served on the Board of Directors for Ducks Unlimited and was vice chair of the Chlorine Institute. Within Dow, Sampson is the executive sponsor of Dow’s Global Labor Relations Network and the Disability Employee Network, designed to improve attraction, retention and advancement of employees with disabilities.

Sampson received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University. He is married and has one daughter. The family enjoys traveling and spending time with friends.
