President, Performance Materials & Coatings
Charlie Zimmer is president of Performance Materials & Coatings (PM&C), one of Dow’s three business operating segments. With annual sales of $8.1 billion, this segment provides market-driven and customer-focused innovation to several fast-growing industries, including mobility, building & infrastructure, electronics, coatings, personal care and healthcare. Zimmer is a member of the Company’s Enterprise Leadership Team and has executive oversight for Dow’s business in Asia Pacific as well as Dow’s MobilityScience™ platform. In addition, as executive sponsor of Dow Sports Marketing Solutions, he champions high-profile global sports partnerships that drive innovation, sustainability and commercial impact.
Zimmer joined Dow Corning in 1998 in Midland, Michigan, USA. He began his career in engineering before moving to the commercial organization, with leadership roles spanning New Business Development, Marketing Communications, Innovation and Marketing. In 2016, Zimmer was named global strategic market director for Pressure Sensitive Solutions and Elastomers in Dow Consumer Solutions (DCS). In 2018, he was promoted to global strategic marketing director for the Silicone Elastomers business, later adding responsibility for Dow’s Engineered Materials and Advanced Elastomers product lines and relocating to Shanghai, China. He was named the global marketing director of DCS in 2020 and returned to Midland, Michigan. In 2022, Zimmer was named the global business director for Performance Silicones and Specialty Materials. Most recently, Zimmer served as business vice president of Dow Industrial Solutions (DIS), where he was responsible for the growth and profitability of its $5 billion portfolio serving manufacturing, consumer and energy markets.
Zimmer is passionate about inclusion and diversity. As a Global Steering Committee member of Dow’s Middle East and North African Intercultural Network (MENA ERG), Zimmer brings this passion and his experience to promote the MENA region, support talent development and drive Dow’s business growth through MENA ERG. He also serves on the American Cleaning Institute® (ACI) Board of Directors.
Zimmer holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Master of Business Administration degree with a focus in finance from Central Michigan University.
