Two Waste Reduction Achievements Recognized for Bahía Blanca Site in Colombia
- September 29, 2017 -
Dow’s Bahía Blanca site was recognized with two Waste Reduction Always Pays (WRAP) Awards for the completion of two projects related to waste reduction and resource assessment that generated a total savings of $100,000 USD.
The projects are aligned with Dow’s 2025 Sustainability Goals, World Leading Operations and Valuing Nature, where the company assumes the challenge of maintaining a leading role in the industrial world, achieving efficient management of natural resources, the environment, health and safety.
The first project focused on wastewater treatment reduction, reducing the quantity of kilograms of water available in the BB1-BB2 plant by 70 percent.
The second project focused on developing an alternative to the use of a municipal landfill to dispose of soil, bricks and debris resulting from construction projects in the complex. Project leaders identified a depressed area suitable for disposal within the site and established a procedure for its proper use. To date, 3,432 tons of material have been disposed of on-site – eliminating the need to use external disposal sites and avoiding associated costs.
