Dow Receives 2016 AmCham Corporate Social Responsibility Award in Vietnam

MIDLAND, Mich. - December 13, 2016 -

For the second consecutive year, Dow received the AmCham Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Recognition Award for the Company’s sustainable practices in Vietnam. The prestigious award recognizes Dow's active engagement in helping the Vietnamese people address pressing challenges such as access to safe and clean drinking water, sustainable operations, and environmental protection.

One of Dow's most notable CSR initiatives in 2016 was focused on providing eight water purification systems to rural schools and hospitals which benefited more than 4,000 students and patients by providing safe and clean drinking water. This follows the renewal of a two-year Memorandum of Understanding with the People's Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM). Dow's most recent CSR initiative includes joint efforts to mobilize more than 1,200 volunteers to help make Hanoi area lakes cleaner, while conserving water resources and protecting environment.

Dow's other CSR activities include empowering more than 2,300 businesses across the country to apply best practices for cleaner production and waste management, as well as promoting the circular economy concept for sustainability and environmental protection for Vietnamese enterprises. Dow serves as co-chair and is one of the founding members of the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD), which fully supports these CSR efforts.

Other Dow CSR projects in Vietnam in 2016 included:

  • Four ongoing “Building Homes, Building Hope” projects to provide homes for underprivileged families.
  • A meaningful “Color of Love” project in collaboration with a strategic customer to improve school facilities and learning environments for more than 1,000 students.
  • A 20 million VND scholarship to the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Social Work Center to benefit the students of Tran Van On Primary School.
  • Sponsorship of AmCham scholarship program for talented students.
