Dow moves up to #37 on 2019 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list
MIDLAND, Mich. - May 08, 2019 - Dow earned the 37th place on the 2019 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list from DiversityInc, which was announced yesterday at DiversityInc’s annual celebratory event in New York City. Dow’s presence on the list for the second consecutive year showcases its commitment to workplace diversity and reflects the Company’s understanding of how a diverse workplace improves both recruitment efforts and profits.
“We are proud to be recognized again as a leader in inclusion and diversity, and it’s gratifying to see Dow move up 13 places on this year’s list,” said Jim Fitterling, chief executive officer of Dow. “Dow’s ambition is to become the most innovative, customer-centric, inclusive and sustainable materials science company in the world. Success will be predicated on building an inclusive culture that values and embraces differences, and taps into the diverse ideas, cultural perspectives, and education, work and life experiences of our people. Inclusion and diversity is a business imperative.”
Dow’s move up the list, from 50th place to the 37th spot in 2019, reflects the Company’s accelerated efforts in recent years to raise the bar for making inclusion a catalyst for positive change.
“We are honored to receive this recognition for our progress and results and committed to continuing to cultivate an inclusive workplace for a globally diverse workforce,” said Karen S. Carter, chief human resources officer and chief inclusion officer of Dow. “DiversityInc sets the bar high and the top companies continue to raise the bar higher. So, we are particularly pleased to be cited among companies doing such outstanding and important work. This achievement is a testimony to the efforts of thousands of Dow people around the world who are bringing inclusion and diversity to life every day and institutionalizing it in the way we work.”
For the first time Dow was also included on three of DiversityInc’s Specialty Lists: 15th on Top Companies for People with Disabilities, 21st on Top Companies for Diversity Councils, and one of 34 companies on Top Companies for LGBT Employees.
To celebrate this notable milestone, Fitterling and Carter participated in the 2019 DiversityInc event. Carter served as a panelist in a session focusing on moving women of color into senior leadership role, while Fitterling engaged in a fireside chat with Carolynn Johnson, COO of DiversityInc.
Issued annually since 2001, the DiversityInc Top 50 list honors top companies across the nation for their management of diversity and inclusion. The list is based on data from a survey of more than 200 questions, which tracks and connects human capital outcomes with best practices used to promote the advancement of underrepresented workplace groups such as women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ and veterans. The rankings factor in a number of elements, including but not limited to talent development, recruitment, supplier diversity and senior leadership commitment to inclusion and diversity.
