Dow David Zimmer Responsible Care Employee Year

  • 2017 marks the fourth consecutive year a Dow employee has received the ACC award
  • Dow has been a historical award recipient, winning five out of the last six years

MIDLAND, Mich. - May 30, 2017 - David Zimmer, the recently retired Performance Monomer Technology Center director for The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), has been awarded the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care® Employee of the Year award. Zimmer has served as a leader in Performance Monomers, advancing Dow’s focus and influence on process safety in the industry. Zimmer’s recognition marks the fourth consecutive year a Dow employee has been named to this honor and is the fifth Dow employee to receive the Responsible Care Employee of the Year award in the last six years from the ACC.

Zimmer recently accepted the award at the ACC Annual Responsible Care Conference at the InterContinental Miami Hotel in Miami, Florida. The award was a capstone achievement for Zimmer, who recently retired from Dow this spring after 34 years with the Company.

“David’s recognition as Responsible Care Employee of the Year is a resounding testament to the leadership he displays on a regular basis, enhancing Dow’s visibility for Environmental, Health & Safety excellence,” said Peter Holicki, Dow’s senior vice president of Operations. “His contributions as Technology Center director have truly driven principles for how we operate at Dow, driving industry-leading performance by always placing safety as the highest priority.”

Zimmer has made several strategic improvements in Process Safety at Dow including leading the establishment of an industry sharing network to exchange Environmental, Health and Safety best practices among acrolein producers and users within North America in an effort to enhance the process and personal safety performance of the industry. The network is now known as the Acrolein Industry EH&S Consortium and is planning its second annual conference for mid-2017.

Zimmer also works with an advisory board for the Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Engineering to assist them in further integrating process safety classes into their curricula.

“I congratulate David for his pursuit of safety excellence within the chemical industry. Of particular note is his desire to expand improvements beyond his own company, to the broader industry through the establishment of an industry sharing network for information exchange on environment, health and safety best practices,” said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. “While David is retiring this year, through his leadership, important groundwork has been laid to enable continued improvement in industry safety performance.”

The Responsible Care Employee of the Year award is presented annually to one member and one Partner company employee for outstanding leadership.
