Dow and Cooper Standard Host Summer Camp

- September 01, 2016 -

Dow has had a standing relationship for decades with Cooper Standard, supplying the company with NORDEL™ EPDM products for automotive sealing, fluid transfer, and fluid and brake delivery applications that make cars quieter, safer, lighter weight and more durable.

In February, Dow and Cooper Standard teamed up with S.A.Y. Detroit, a Mitch Albom non-profit, to launch the Science in the Deep station within the newly renovated academic and sport Play Center. The state-of-the-art Science in the DEEP center will make science come to life through computers provided by the companies and STEM programs facilitated by their employees. The science station was developed to help students increase their educational performance, attendance and graduation rates.

In July, Dow and Cooper Standard teamed up to host a four-day STEM summer camp at the Play Center for 30 children. The camp was focused on inspiring participation in the center's First Lego League (FLL) program to build a team for the upcoming season. Volunteers from both companies taught the students the basics of building and programming a robot system used to compete in FLL.

At the conclusion of the camp, each of the four student teams had an operating robot that could score points. The center was full of smiles and excitement – from both the kids and volunteers!
