Dow Advocates for Energy Efficient Buildings and Adoption of Green Building Materials in Vietnam

Midland, Mich - August 31, 2017 - - Dow Vietnam and Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) recently sponsored a technology forum with help of the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC). The objectives of the forum were focused on calling upon various stakeholders in the building industry to join the drive for higher building energy efficiency and to promote use of more green and sustainable building materials in Vietnam. The effort seeks to mitigate the impacts of increasing energy demand while also addressing occupant comfort and safety.

The forum held at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park was well-attended, with over 80 participants from across the industry value chain including top developers like Hoa Binh Construction and Real Estate Corporation, industrial construction specialists from Architects and Construction Service Corporation (ACSC) and many designers, architects, building material suppliers, and consultants.

Dr. Le Hoai Quoc, president of the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, kicked off the event with a speech that emphasized the importance of coordination and partnership between government institutions, NGOs, and private enterprises in enhancing awareness of the benefits of green buildings.

In order to provide a holistic view of the green buildings to the audience, the event focused on the following topics:

  • Use of latest modeling and design tools upfront in achieving a balance between aesthetics
  • Space planning and optimal building energy intensity
  • Use of climate specific building materials
  • Active integrated building performance analysis systems to ensure sustained energy efficiency performance
  • Various energy labels and validating the performance of energy efficiency systems and products in buildings

In his welcome speech, Sasama Tomoyuki, Country Manager of Dow Vietnam, reflected on social and economic trends in Vietnam that drive the increasing energy intensity. He also discussed the reliance of coal and advocated for the proliferation of energy efficient buildings across the country to build toward a low-carbon society.

Log Ravisanker, R&D Director of Dow SEA region, also shared solutions for warm climates including building passive insulation, air sealing, high performance windows/facades, and cool roof technologies. Various Dow technologies and case studies were highlighted to demonstrate the impact of these green building materials on building energy efficiency.
