2018 Education Grants Recipients

The Dow Gives Education Grants Program supports funding for innovative and creative projects that enhance STEM education in the classroom

The Dow Gives Education Grants Program is ecstatic to announce six local schools are the recipients of grant awards, up to $10,000, that will be used to power innovative and creative projects in local classrooms that align with Dow’s Global Citizenship strategy to invest in the workforce of tomorrow by focusing on classroom to career activities and educator empowerment. Dow believes a quality educational system is critical to the future success of both the community and local industry, and the Dow Gives Education Grants Program is one of many ways Dow seeks to support educational success and, ultimately, community sustainability.

Please join Dow Texas Operations in congratulating the following schools, districts, and educational projects as recipients of the 2018 Dow Gives Education Grants Program:

Angleton High School (Angleton ISD) – Funding for a complete classroom set of TI-INSPIRE CX CAS Graphing Calculators to be used by the Science Department so students can collaboratively collect and analyze lab data.

Freeport Intermediate School (Brazosport ISD) – Funding for an Aquaponics System complete including a 300 gallon tank, filtration system, four media beds, and 4' x 16' elevated deep water culture floating raft trough to expand growing capacity.

Gladys Polk Elementary School (Brazosport ISD) – Funding for a 3D Market Day in which 3rd and 4th grade students will participate in 3D and MakerBot printing through engineering, design, construction, and entrepreneurial activities.

Madge Griffith Elementary School (Brazosport ISD) – Funding for an Outdoor Learning Lab focusing on a variety of STEM disciplines including raised garden beds for botany and agricultural, sand and water tables for measurement study, and a weather station.

Northside Elementary School (Angleton ISD) – Funding for an Aquaponics Lab for each STEAM class to take ownership of individual tanks and to build downstream relationships with the Angleton High School Culinary Arts Program and local restaurants.

Velasco Elementary School (Brazosport ISD) – Funding for a school-wide Mobile STEM Lab to bring Engineering Process Design curriculum to every student in every classroom.

Throughout the month of December, the Dow Texas Operations Facebook page featured each of the Dow Gives Education and Community Grant recipient organizations and their innovation projects.

Dow's 2025 Goals and Global Citizenship focus remain on sustainable communities. Through Educator Empowerment Dow partners with educators to build STEM teaching and leadership skills. Dow supports educators through employee engagement inside and outside the classroom. Through Classroom to Career activities we ignite interest and enhance preparedness for students in STEM fields through engagement of the Dow workforce and strategic partnerships.

About the Dow Gives Education Grants Program

The Dow Gives Education Grants Program is an annual competitive grant program for K-12 public schools in the following districts: Angleton Independent School District (AISD), Brazosport Independent School District (BISD), Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District (CBISD), Danbury Independent School District (DISD), and Sweeny Independent School District (SISD). Private and parochial schools are also eligible to apply. Schools can apply for grants up to $10,000 for local school programs or projects that increase interest and excellence in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields of study.
