Lead TS&D Specialist

Packaging and Specialty Plastics (P&SP) is the largest business unit in Dow. The business focuses on high growth markets in food packaging, industrial packaging, personal hygiene, and transmission pipe. Key responsibilities

This TS&D specialist will play a key technical role in supporting the growth of the Packaging and Specialty Plastics business of the Dow Chemical Company in Japan.

1. Provide technical solutions

• Propose solutions to resolve internal and external technical issues related to the Packaging and Specialty Plastics business.

• Identify gaps of existing products and technology, and design new products by working closely with global R&D experts.

2. Interface with customers

• Cultivate and maintain customer intimacy by interacting with customers on a regular basis. Work closely with sales counterparts to develop and solidify relationships with customers.

• Responsibilities include: visit customers, provide technical consultation and troubleshooting advice, coordinate test samples and results, technical presentation and lab results analysis.

• Write call report after customer visit. Write 1-2 Central Report Index (CRI) reports yearly and 1 Invention Concept Document (ICD) are required.

• Understand competitor’s offering and activities.

Experience Qualifications

• Minimum Master’s degree in Polymer Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or materials science disciplines.

• Proven track record of customer issue resolving and technical troubleshooting.

• Fundamental understanding in the general area of polymer science and engineering, e.g. polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer processing and rheology, polymer characterization etc.

• This role requires highly proficient local language (Japanese). Good English reading, writing and speaking capability is also required.

Soft skills qualifications

• Self motivated, proactive and confident. Possesses customer-oriented mentality. Can-do attitude.

• Ability to drive a project from beginning to the end under proposed time frame. Can set timeline and prioritize multiple projects.

• Strong interpersonal skills. Work comfortably in a team setting. Able to motivate and positively influence team members.

• Good writing and presentation skills.

• Travel up to 50% of work time.

This position does not offer relocation assistance.

• A minimum requirement for this Japan based position is the ability to work legally in Japan. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of Japan permanent residency process.
