Dow’s partnership with FIRST will allow for the creation of new FIRST teams throughout North America and the world and provide hands-on learning experiences for students to get them excited about STEM. Our ultimate goal is to motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in STEM, and equip them with the life skills needed to be successful in the STEM fields.

Funding is determined by program for the 2019/2020 season for registration and product:

Rookie Teams

FIRST Lego League Jr $325

FIRST Lego League $900

FIRST Tech Challenge $1250

FIRST Robotics Competition $6,000

Veteran Teams (1 year or older)

FIRST Lego League Jr   $120

FIRST Lego League       $350

FIRST Tech Challenge   $310

FIRST Robotics Competition 2nd Year: $2,500

                                                3rd Year: $1,000

Requirements

  • Teams must register at www.usfirst.org before applying for a Dow grant. A team number, assigned by FIRST, is required to apply for Dow funding. Paying registration before your grant is approved may potentially forfeit your grant.
  • Teams must be associated with a school or 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations (4-H, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, etc.) in order to be eligible.
  • A Dow mentor must be assigned to each team (Dow employees and retirees are eligible to participate as team mentors)

Teams will be notified of their grant status within 3 weeks of submission. For teams that accept The Dow Chemical Company grant, they agree to the following requirements, by program.

Accepted FLL JR Teams

  • Teams will consist of 3-6 active members age 6-10.
  • Teams will meet at least weekly for at least one hour per week for 6-8 weeks
  • Teams will showcase their work at least one FLL JR Event/Expo.
  • The coach will be responsible for managing the team and for participating in a post-season evaluation.
  • Display the logo provided by The Dow Chemical Company on team shirt, website and/or team materials.

Accepted FLL Teams

  • Teams will consist of 5-10 active members age 9-14.
  • Teams will meet at least weekly for at least two hours throughout the season.
  • Coaches will participate in a training session for coaches if available and will abide by the guidelines in the FLL Coach's Handbook.
  • The teams will participate in at least one tournament, which may be a district, regional or championship event.
  • The coach will be responsible for managing the team and for participating in a post-season evaluation.
  • Display the logo provided by The Dow Chemical Company on the team pit, website and shirts.

Accepted FTC Teams

  • Teams will consist of 5-15 active members between the ages 12-18.
  • The team will meet at least weekly for at least two hours throughout the season.
  • Coaches will participate in a training session for coaches if available.
  • The teams will participate in at least one tournament, which may be a district, regional or championship event.
  • The coach will be responsible for managing the team and for participating in a post-season evaluation.
  • Display the logo provided by The Dow Chemical Company on the team robot, pit, website and shirts.

Returning Teams

  • Participate in at least 2 community outreach activities throughout the year

Accepted FRC Teams

  • Have one or more Dow employees actively supporting the team as a mentor.
  • Teams will consist of 10 or more active members for rookie teams.
  • The teams will participate in at least one regional event.
  • The mentor will be responsible for managing the team and for participating in a post-season evaluation.
  • Display the logo provided by The Dow Chemical Company on the team robot, pit, website and shirts.

Returning Teams

  • Participate in at least 2 community outreach activities throughout the year.
  • Apply for either the Entrepreneurship or Chairman's Award at a regional event.
